While there are advantages to these two frames, their intrinsic limitations greatly held back window construction, that is, until our proprietary Fibrex® material.
The Old Way
Aluminum is a lightweight and versatile metal, sturdy enough to hold its structure against years of use yet relatively malleable enough to be shaped into various designs. Like most metal frames, aluminum conducts heat. As a window frame, this makes it difficult to achieve high levels of energy efficiency.
As energy efficiency in window replacement started to trend, vinyl has taken center stage as a better alternative to aluminum window frames. The material is excellent at insulating windows, which means more homes enjoyed its energy-saving benefits. The only drawback came from its durability. With constant exposure to the sun’s heat, vinyl becomes more and more prone to cracking and warping.
Fibrex
Fibrex is made from a composite thermopolymer material. The frame itself is a combination of wood fiber and a strong vinyl-based polymer, giving it the advantages of aluminum, wood and vinyl but none of their weaknesses.
Making a Difference
When it comes to window replacement, nothing even comes close to Fibrex. Its strength allows it to be made into narrower frames, giving homeowners more glass area for their windows. Its insulating abilities resist thermal warping far better than vinyl and make for a much stronger heating seal compared to aluminum.
