The biennial Improving America’s Housing Report is a study prepared by the Remodeling Futures Program of Harvard University’s Joint Center for Housing Studies. This assesses where the remodeling industry is headed and what the current market trends are.
According to the report, generations in households resulted in different home improvement priorities. Baby boomers who are approaching their retirement years are more active when it comes to projects like window replacement in Atlanta. Millennials made up only a small share of the market. Common causes of slow home buying growth included student loans, state of employment, and mortgage fees. The study suggested, however, that millennials will be more engaged in the housing market by 2025.
Gen-X homeowners also contributed largely on the remodeling market. Based on the study, leading Gen-X homeowners accounted for 20.9% of the market share, while trailing gen-X homeowners accounted for 13.4% shares.
